I was born in Zimbabwe in 1971, moved to South Africa in 1982 and have been living in the Virgin Islands since 1992 working on various charter yachts as a chef and divemaster. Growing up in a landlocked country I was immediately drawn to the beauty and mystery of the underwater world I found in the Virgin Islands.
I come from a long line of artists and have dabbled with various mediums without much success or satisfaction until my brother, an avid nature photographer specializing in birds, introduced me to photography in 2002. In 2003 I bought my first underwater camera, a Nikon coolpix 5000 housed in an aquatica housing with a single ikelite strobe and never looked back. I now shoot with a Nikon D70 with an aquatica housing and dual Ikelite DS125 strobes.
When I am underwater my goal is to capture the true essence of the subject I am photographing, bringing to the surface as it were, an awareness and appreciation of the underwater realm. I aim to show these subjects in their most natural behavior as they go about their daily lives with patience and absolute consideration for them and their environment. I am slowly branching out to topside photography but my true passion lies beneath the waves. As you browse my web site, I hope that you enjoy my photographs as much as I have enjoyed taking them.
